What is SubstraTulum?

SubstraTulum is a Materials and Design Laboratory based in Tulum, Quintana Roo, Mexico. We transform regional resources —sargassum, mineral aggregates, fibers, and biomass— into objects and habitable spaces, connecting territorial observation, material research, and computational design.

What does the lab research?

Caribbean sargassum, mineral aggregates, fibers, and biomass. Sargassum is an emblematic resource within this research platform —not the only material or an automatic answer—; we study what can be responsibly transformed, under what conditions, and for what uses.

What stage is SubstraTulum at?

Research, prototyping, and validation stage, pre-revenue. As of August 2026, running a US$1M pre-seed validation round —with MXN 580K in founder-provided seed capital to date— per SubstraTulum's one-pager (v2.1.0); no formulation is presented as a certified product or validated structural solution without evidence.

Where is it located?

In Tulum, Quintana Roo, Mexico. A showroom on Avenida Tulum provides visibility for collectible pieces and a point of contact for interior design and architecture projects; it is not a retail store or a bulk-material sales channel.

Who does it collaborate with?

Physical testing and characterization protocols are developed in academic collaboration with the FabLab at Universidad Anáhuac México (Mexico City). The full four-person team is presented on the team page.

Is anything for sale today?

No. SubstraTulum does not yet report sales, orders, active commercial channels, or validated market traction. The four projected revenue lines (retail, B2B supply, bespoke projects, applied research) are a future strategy, not a current offer.
